The Tenrikyo Disaster Relief Hinokishin Corps (DRHC) from Ibaraki Diocese were dispatched between October 29 and November 3 to areas inundated by the Kinugawa River after heavy rains struck the Kanto region.
When the DRHC were first dispatched a month and a half ago in September, they helped with the recovery of educational facilities. This time, they again received a request from Joso City to assist with cleaning homes that were flooded and picking debris by hand from rice paddies.
Further, Joso City Mayor Toru Takasugi looked on as the DRHC worked and expressed words of appreciation: “It pleased me greatly that (the DRHC) helped clean educational facilities in a focused manner last time. Regarding our request for their assistance this time, this second round, we hoped to have them to provide relief to residents who were most severely affected. We are greatly thankful to them for their support.”
DRHC members from Saitama Diocese also came to assist, bringing the total number of participating members to 275 over six days.
