Shohei Ono captures gold at Rio Olympics

Tenri University and Tenri City hosted a “public viewing” to cheer on Shohei Ono, graduate student at Tenri University and Olympian at Rio de Janeiro judo 73 kg weight division. Tenri citizens and university students gathered for the event. The hall erupted in cheers when Ono collected his ippon win for the gold.

Second phase, Kumamoto earthquake disaster relief

40,000 homes have been damaged by the Kumamoto earthquake. The second phase of Disaster Relief Hinokishin Corps (DRHC) was dispatched on April 27 to Mashikimachi, an area that suffered substantial damage. A total of 377 members from Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Nara, and Oyasato Diocese DRHC participated in clearing debris over four days.
